"Office" is kind of a loose term at my house. There are office supplies in just about every room in the house - binders above the TV, art supplies in the kitchen, workbooks on the microwave, filing cabinets in my daughter's room, and a printer in my husband's work area. My main "office" and desk space is located in a corner of the living room, near the front door.

With the Christmas tree up, I was pushed to in front of the front door.

So that's where I've sat for the last month or so. Kinda cramped. The kids climbed over me to get to their books. I have boxes of office supplies for one of my many endevors piled behind my chair. There are Christmas decorations scattered throughout, trying to hide the desk. The paper piles, however, are doing a better job than the decorations.

Set up: One trash can and a trunk organizer I found at TJMaxx for $9.99. It will eventually be used in the trunk, but it's too cold to organize my Suburban in January. So it's getting some indoor use before then.

Phase one: Declutter.

I use a four bin system: One for trash, one for sell, one for give away, and one for items to relocate. I use my Reisenthel Carrybag for relocating stuff.

The first round of decluttering went well, but I didn't get into the boxes behind the chairs. Still, it was nice to see the top of my desk!

And here's my office, all neat and tidy!

The Sterilite drawers were $25 from Big Lots. ALL of the office supplies from behind my chair fit in them!

I also employed my new Brother P-Touch D200 label maker to print labels for each drawer. If there was more than one kind of item, I just printed one label for each type. I could have printed all of the items on one label, but I liked this better. I can just read down the drawers and find what I need.

These bins are leftover from the old office on 3rd. Two of them fit perfectly inside each of the drawers.

This bin was $11.99 from Hobby Lobby. I used a 40% off coupon and got it for 7.20. I wanted something with a handle that could hold all of the supplies I need for setting up booths or tables at events. Nothing special, just sign up sheets, pens, and tape. I plan to add brochures, buttons, and other material later.

Here's a shot from above the kids' bookshelf! I have two clear letter sorters, one with work stuff and one with personal stuff. I also have my personal file box I got last season at Target. I like the red accents, and plan to use them throughout the living room.

I used color-cordinating folders in the clear letter sorter. These were pre-label maker, though I think I'll relabel them. I also have a clip of library books, a few bookmarks, and a card from my husband on display.

This little desk was a small vanity. The mirror arms were broken, and I got the piece plus a small bench and a small mirror for $5. I junked the bench and the mirror, and gained a perfectly sized laptop desk.

I found the chair at Community Blessings, a small thrift shop in Mandan. I believe it was a dining chair, just from the shape and the height. I love it. If I had a whole room for my office, I would use the colors on the chair as my color scheme.

I needed something to test out my gold label maker tape on.

There is only one small drawer in the vanity/desk, so I took inspiration from pinterest and labeled some empty altoid tins for some basic supplies. I also picked up a pack of pretty black pencils with Swarovski crystals on the ends at TJMaxx for $4.99.

This is were most of my paper stuff goes. I use the magazine rack for my to-read items as well as clipboards for upcoming work. I also keep a slim binder with page protectors to save inspiring magazine articles. Most everything else gets tossed or shredded. Rare exceptions are filed. I try not to keep papers I don't need. I also use Evernote to digitally file stuff I want to keep, especially kids artwork, letters, and receipts. I just finished scanning my recipes into an Evernote notebook. It's great for cutting clutter!
It looks a bit like a blank slate, ready for a new year. I think that's why I always feel energized and ready to tackle major organizing challenges come January - Or maybe it's just the great sales on organizing supplies!
This year, I've decided to join a blog organizing party to help keep me motivated and on task. Bonus: This one has some super great prizes!

Over the next 4 weeks, I plan to organize my Office Space, Kitchen, Closet, and Family/Playroom. Hopefully, I can get Neil excited to help as well, as that last one involves finishing putting up some sheetrock and doing some painting. *whew!*
You can do it too! You can join the Organizing Challenge without a blog - you just need to set up a new Pinterest Board. Here's a guide on how to set one up for this link party:
http://organizingmadefun.blogspot.com/2012/12/how-to-link-up-your-post-to-pinterest.html
I look forward to a fun challenge!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-37886531349692249572012-11-19T18:44:00.001-06:002012-11-19T19:28:33.658-06:00HST+: Using Library and Reading Log with Guided ReadingI've started to use HST to track the reading levels for the books in my collection. I use the Guided Reading scale, but you can do it with any scale you like. I like guided reading because the letters (A-Z) aren't easily confused with actual grade levels (except for K and maybe P).

Here's how I've been doing it:

First, I enter a new Library Record using the ISBN. I also lookup the level of the title, usually using Scholastic BookWizard. I enter the level in the "Grade Level" field. This way, that info shows up in both the Resource tab and the Reading Log tab. You could also put it in "Custom," but it won't display in the Resource or Reading Log tabs.

Next, I evaluate my student's reading level. You can figure out the level of books they read on their own, or use a tool like this one http://parents.pioneervalleybooks.com/assessments . I found this picks their "Instructional" level, not their "Independant" level, so keep that in mind. You could also do a benchmark assessment, or hire a reading specialist to do one for you.

Finally, I sort the Library tab by Grade Level and right click and "Create Reading Log item" to assign the book to a particular student.

Using this software, I can assign either independant reading or instructional (with me) reading for each student that's tailored to their reading level, and to my book collection. I don't have to maintain sorted bins of leveled books, and I can continue to use the shelving system I already set up.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-76809296936294754272012-03-07T21:22:00.000-06:002012-11-19T21:23:33.961-06:00In response to misinformation and poor sports re the ND GOP Caucus 2012I don’t think there was anything rotten in the way the votes were tallied or handled in ND. I think there has been a lot of user error resulting in the spread of misinformation on the internet. I personally stayed late in Bismarck to watch the vote tallies with my friends, and we collected totals as they were counted. Those numbers match the numbers provided on the NDGOP website, which you can find here: http://www.northdakotagop.org/caucus
Now, to the common errors. For background, you should know that Fargo boarders Minnesota. Now, Dr. Paul had a rally in the same building and at the same time as the presidential caucus, and people could walk down the hall to vote. The primary reason that I suggest as to why many of them didn’t stay and vote is probably because they were from Minnesota, and were not North Dakota residents. It’s also possible that at least some of the people in the room were not Paul supporters at all, but wanted to hear a presidential candidate at a presidential caucus.
I have seen a video clip from CNN that shows a vote tally for the “other” box at the Fargo polls. Each district in the Fargo area had a ballot box. There was one box for “other” districts, for anyone who was a voter from out of town. Now, the tally from that “other” box showed an extremely high percentage for Ron Paul. That makes sense, given that supporters would likely have traveled from as far as Grand Forks just to hear him speak. That doesn’t make it representative of the Fargo area, or of the state as a whole.
A third error is so simple. If you mouse over the Bismarck (or Fargo, or any of the other areas), you will only see results for one of the districts represented at that polling place. Move around a bit and you’ll see results for other districts. Double click and you can see zoom in to select the different districts. Last night in Bismarck, Districts 7, 8, 30, 32, 35, and 47 all voted at the Bismarck Civic Center. The results for each of those districts will be a fraction of the total number of votes cast at the Civic Center. Same deal in Fargo. You have to add them all together to get the total number of votes cast in Bismarck.
Any questions?Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-88008137686594910442011-03-22T19:39:00.009-06:002011-03-22T20:56:22.098-06:00Dan's blizzard shopping

Neil came home from work in a sticky, sloshy, windy blizzard. He noticed a box of German chocolate cake on the counter. He immediately announced that he needed frosting, and that he was going back out.
I thought he was nuts. Not wanting to miss an opportunity however, I wrote out a quick shopping list. This is what he bought.

Store: Dan's Supervalu
Day of the week: Tuesday (last day of ad cycle)
Total cost: 26.74
Savings: 47%
Money saving shopping tip: Always shop with a list.

I've been using the iPhone app "Shopper" by Midcentury Software ($0.99, app store) for over a year. I set up separate lists for each of the stores I prefer to shop at. At the store, I can add prices and check off items and the app maintains a running total of my cart. Whenever I need to send Neil to the store, I simply email the list to him.
We recently got new Android phones. I was happy to find that this app is also available on the Android market (free). Not all of the functionality has transferred over, but one neat feature has me pleased. By logging in as the same user on both of our devices, changes can be made by either of us and updated in real time. Now, Neil can check items off as he shops, and I no longer have to update my lists when he returns home. Also, if he stops in for donuts, he knows exactly what else I want from that store.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-47251057166351395202010-08-26T22:45:00.003-06:002010-08-26T22:49:38.065-06:00A new endeavor!Digital Scrapbooking!

Here's my first ever page, using PhotoShop and Shabby Princess' Easy-As-Pie Template. Notice the plum tree in the center and the rose bush and grape arbor in front of the shed. The main garden area will be just to the right of that shed.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Vs9NP5FsPH4/S6jvyhTcKtI/AAAAAAAAACI/On1DSV3sFrw/s320/DSC06995.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5451871000144390866" />Here's the garden area. It's about 12' x 24'. Notice the compost bin in the back on the left. Also, notice the shade from the currently leafless tree. That will change, I promise. Most of my yard gets limited sun in the summer, and this is one of the best spots. There is a spot up front that gets more sun, and that's where I will be planting my tomatoes and peppers.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 166px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Vs9NP5FsPH4/S6jv-_dLuhI/AAAAAAAAACQ/vTVi9CB0cN8/s320/Rear+garden+plot.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5451871214396750354" /> Here's my plan for the back garden. It's in 3x3 instead of 4x4 in order to leave room for 3' walkways. Additionally, I'll be carrying around a new infant starting in June and I don't expect to be able to reach the center of a 4x4. We have three young boys, and they will be helping as well.

In the plan, you can see two melon plants with lots of space around them. I do plan to trellis the Cukes, but I thought I would try one of the smaller "bush" type melons and see how they do without a trellis. It's an experiment, so bear with me.

Also, it probably looks like a lot of peas, beans, lettuce, spinich, and carrots. That is due to our participation in our state ag department's variety trials. We plant two varieties of each crop, and compare them at the end of the harvest season. The trials include enough seed for a 10' row, but I'm not sure how to convert that for SFG. I assume that the 1 plant per square plants will work like one square equals one foot row, and that the 9 plants per square plants will work like one square equals 3 foot rows. Does anyone have experience converting foot rows to squares?Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-8023503495344778912010-03-23T10:09:00.004-06:002010-03-23T10:38:12.757-06:00The end of the hiatusNothing like taking a year off from blogging to make one want to start again! I've spent the last year checking out Facebook, researching school curriculums, coordinating our local MOPS group, and getting ready for a new baby (We're due in June!). Other minor projects have included purchasing a new vehicle (We welcomed a Suburban in July), repainting the bathroom upstairs, building a table, starting a saltwater aquarium, replacing all carseats, moving Ezekiel into the big boys' room, and basic school endeavors.

This year, we plan to change the garden over to a Square Foot Garden. We also plan to do a little wood working and build a few more furniture pieces. We have a big garage sale planned for sometime in May. We are working on converting my old office space into a dining room/school room/guest room.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-37629350026497359212009-02-12T09:02:00.001-06:002009-02-12T09:02:51.349-06:00Hangin' with the boysI was reading the blog at www.littlejoeyroo.com and I got some fun
ideas for activities. We tried the snow in a box. That was great fun!
I laid down some towels in the kitchen, then went outside to fill a
plastic bin with snow. The boys played together for about an hour,
making snowballs and letting their little fingers get chilled. They
had fun, and I got a bit of peace.
Going with the idea of play stations (no, not the gaming console), I
thought I'd share what we have in our house. There are toys all over
the house, but every activity has it's place.
In the living room we keep the large sets, including the trains, the
legos, and the Pixar Cars collection. The rule for this area is only
one set out at a time. This means that often the entire living room
floor is completely overrun with toys, but it's always a quick
cleanup. We don't have to do any sorting, just dump the entire set
into it's designated holding spot. The trains go in the trunk, the
legos in a bin, and the Cars in a case.
The kitchen is the next sometimes play area. This is reserved only for
the truely messy activities. Again, only one at a time. The standard
choices are playdough or paint. Additionally, I avoid allowing them to
paint together. I can't think of one good reason why they both should
have paintbrushes at the same time.
Downstairs in the playroom there is a kitchen set and the bulk of the
toys. Here they are allowed free play, and I generally don't bother
tidying their space for a good two weeks at a time. I feel this helps
them learn to care for their own space, and helps them understand the
consequences when they don't: namely, there's no room to play. Also in
the playroom is a table with paper, coloring books, and crayons.
Jackson loves to draw. Every day he produces a stack of pictures,
each with it's own story.
Their bedroom is reserved for soft playthings, tents, and forts. Often
I'll enter their room to discover a "Nick nest" of blankets on the
floor, or a fort under Jackson's bed.
Sometimes I think I'm not spontaneous enough when it comes to playing
with my boys. I'm learning to let their ideas and plans draw me in
until I can't help but join them.
Andrea Toman
Sent from my iPodAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-9272819943845993622009-02-11T14:05:00.002-06:002009-02-11T14:07:57.875-06:00I look in the mirror and what do I see?Two revelations for me today: I never, EVER have a "no drive" day. Between work and visiting relatives, we pretty much NEVER stay home all day. I may give myself a gold star as spring comes for days I walk to an event or errand - say, the post office, the grocery store, or the library. They all are about 10 blocks from here, so it's a nice walk when it's nice out. It can't be done with three kids in tow in 3 feet of snow, however.
My second revelation is that I'm obsessed with the % that I save on groceries. I average a savings of 20-40%. My ultimate goal is to consistantly see 50% savings on those receipts. That means I can only buy sale items, and only good sales, too. I can buy in quantity, but the value has to be there. Coupons are a must for most purchases.
I put up a shoe shelf in the boys' closet yesterday and organized all their shoes by size and type (dress, play, sandal). I felt so good when I finished that I was inspired to re-organize the play room, blow through three loads of laundry, and put together my new spinning wheel. I had a fantastic day yesterday!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-16736126074867018622009-01-13T21:05:00.002-06:002009-01-13T21:12:24.845-06:00New Year's ResolutionsIt's a new year! I've decided to do a few things differently this year, and some of those changes will affect this blog.

1) I have decided to remove all pictures of my kids from the web. I'm not paranoid, but the pics eat up bandwidth and space on my flickr account that I need for my knitting stuff. :D Plus, it seems like the "right" thing to do. Anyway, that may mean there will be holes where pictures should be if you look back to previous posts. Going forward, I will probably upload post photos directly to Blogger instead of hosting them elsewhere.

2) Neil's family has begun reading through the entire Bible in one year, and we have decided to join them. I just finished Ezra, and I found it interesting. It's an account of the rebuilding of Jerusalem after the exile in Babylon. I had not read Ezra before (who thinks to start there?), so I already feel like I've accomplished something.

3) I started Spinning! Check out http://knitruby.blogspot.com for details. :DAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-72787022748883919222008-11-20T13:23:00.001-06:002008-11-20T13:23:01.781-06:00My Review of One Size Cloth Diaper 3.0 - Grasshopper

Originally submitted at Diapers.com

bumGenius One Size Cloth Diaper 3.0 - Grasshopper

New & Improved 3.0 includes newborn insert and one-size insert

Order 6 and save $3.00! Discount automatically taken at checkout. Applies for 6 of the ...

One Size Cloth Diaper 3.0 - Grasshopper

Wish I had 30 of these

By Andrea, mom of three from Bismarck, ND on 11/20/2008

5out of 5

Pros: Good Value, Highly Absorbent, Fold Well, Wash Well, Easy to use, Adjust easily

Cons: Limited colors

Best Uses: Toddlers, Crawlers

Describe Yourself: Parent of Two or More Children

I use these diapers every day with two kids, a crawler and a toddler. My first instinct was to freak out and tell him to get down out of the tree. Instead I grabbed my camera and captured a little boy at play.

Later he came to the door and asked for a blanket. There's nothing like the drastic changes that a post-baby body endures to spark a desire to reinvent your personal style. With that in mind, I've gone through all of my winter clothing and sorted it into stuff that fits well, accents my best features, and is not outdated, and then everything else. Some things have gone to Repeat Performance to consign, and a few items have gone to the thrift store. I have a whole pile of jeans that I need to cut apart and do something special with - I'm thinking of an outdoor blanket, but we shall see.

Here's one of my new looks, showcasing my new (from consignment store) cashmere sweater, long necklace (doubled, also from consignment store), and Gucci handbag (Ebay, and had it authenticated by my friends at The Purse Forum).

I love watching Tim Gunn's Guide to Style on Bravo. It was my inspiration for reworking my wardrobe. I used Tim's list of 10 Essential Elements to decide what I need to specifically add.
Basic Black Dress - Have
Trench Coat - Need
Dress Pants - Have
Classic Shirt - Need
Jeans - Have
Any Occasion Top/Cashmere sweater - Need
Skirt - Have (in spades)
Day Dress - Have
Jacket - Have
Sweatsuit Alternative - Huh? That means keeping quantities low, but in the end I feel like we have really nice things that make us feel good about our purchases. I also like Tim Gunn's rule that most trend items shouldn't cost more than $20.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-56605771281840449612008-10-21T21:57:00.002-06:002018-07-26T13:24:20.084-06:00Living up to your potentialUgh. Sometimes I just feel so underutilized and overworked. I do all the “normal” mom stuff and some work on the side, but something is missing. Right now, I just feel too intelligent to waste time poking around with legos.*tearing up*

*sniff*

Sorry.

I can not go back to work, even if I decided I wanted to. I have three beautiful boys three and under, and daycare, well, it would be a negative operation.
I’ve done direct sales, and I’m tired of being gone evenings at supper and bedtime. Besides, they didn’t exactly fulfill my need for intellectual stimulation.
I’m not a genius, but I do think I’m pretty smart. I have a BA in Education. I considered architecture, art, engineering, etc., but decided that education would allow me to pursue all of those interests in a limited sense. Looking back I wish I had picked something mentally draining like mathematical engineering, but I don’t want to take the time to go back now.
I feel like I’m trapped at home, not creating something that will make the world immeasurably better for my children and making myself independently wealthy. I’m tired of using my powers to live frugally on a shoestring.
I need some validation, ladies!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-52311306144479537432008-09-29T21:02:00.005-06:002008-09-29T21:23:28.084-06:00Forests burn, houses crumble, banks colapse.Forest fires are very interesting. They destroy life. They decimate large areas, taking out thousands of old trees. They chase wildlife out of the area, killing some in the process. Forest fires ruin vistas, turning once beautiful landscapes into charred and desolate slopes.
Yet after the fire passes, life returns. Because the old growth is gone, the new growth is able to grow strong. Animals reenter the area and reestablish territories. The new trees grow tall and strong, and they too become old. The cycle begins again.
Sometimes people build houses and buildings too close to the forests. It's understandable, the forest is a beautiful place. It provides great shelter, lovely views, and plenty of food. But the fires will come.
Forest managers know that the secret to preventing large and destructive forest fires is to remove old dead growth before it can become fuel for the fire. The forest managers spend a lot of time and effort carefully selecting old growth and removing it, along with any dead debris. By keeping the forest floor clean they may not prevent every fire, but will make the ones they do encounter more manageable.
We need forest fires. If the dead debris is not removed, new growth can not thrive. If there are no forest managers, or if they do not do their job, then the forest must burn to allow for the renewing of the land.
I say let the financial lending institutions burn. The old growth needs to be cleaned out and the dead debris needs to be removed. Pouring massive amounts of money into the fire will not put it out, it will only force the fire to spread elsewhere. We need to dig some trenches to contain the blaze, but we cannot expect to snuff it out without suffering some losses. The fire will burn out eventually, and next time we can learn from this lesson - keep the forest floor clean, and the next fire will not be as devastating.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-16601496767794839832008-09-09T19:57:00.001-06:002008-09-09T19:57:54.067-06:00Road Trip
DSC03865
Originally uploaded by andreatoman

We went to visit Karen in Rapid City last weekend, and she took us to Spearfish Canyon and then to a little lodge coffee shop in Spearfish. We had a great time visiting her and checking out the sights. Nick just loved all the water, with the creek, the fish ponds, the waterfalls and this little fountain at the coffee shop. Neil was holding him back to keep him from bothering the fish that were swimming in it.
Karen is doing well enough, Her surgery is scheduled for this Wednesday. My MIL is down there with her and will be coming back later this week. I pray it goes well.
Oh, check out my Knit Ruby blog if you'd like to see the shawl I started to knit for Karen. I hope to get it done before September is over.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-16296238702790804262008-08-27T09:47:00.003-06:002008-08-27T12:26:39.414-06:00Aunt KarenYesterday Neil's aunt Karen was diagnosed with cancer. I don't know what kind, only that it seems to be in her lymph nodes. The doctors are optimnistic - it doesn't sound as bad as they first thought. Neil and I are taking the kids down this weekend to visit, do some shops, and hopefully cklean her house for her or something like that. We'll see what happens.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-58315199629091550642008-08-21T20:52:00.005-06:002008-08-21T21:03:14.943-06:00BabywearingBack in January, my friend Alyse got me interested in a wide variety of "crunchy" family ideas. One was homebirth, though I already had an interest. Another was cloth diapers, for which I could see an immediate financial advantage. The last, babywearing, didn't seem to have any obvious advantages.
I had held all of my babies, and worn them with the standard Baby Bjorn carrier, but I almost always used a stroller when out and about. At home, I typically let the baby sleep in his crib or play in his bouncy seat.
Long story short, I let Alyse talk me into trying a couple of her slings. I used them right away with Nick (while I was still pregnant), but he wasn't very interested. I did some research online, and found that babywearing promotes bonding, allows for easy (and even hands free!) nursing, and comforts both mom and baby.
Since Zeke has been born, I've used the baby slings a lot more. I found the pocket sling type to be easiest to use for quick in and out, and especially with a small baby since they aren't expected to support themselves at all. I have also tried a wrap, and I like that for the versatility and greater security. I have gone back and tried all my slings and wraps with all of my kids, and I find the wrap to work best with Nick and Zeke, and the pocket slings to work best with Jackson and with Zeke when he was first born.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-68029782950325566192008-08-13T21:08:00.001-06:002008-08-13T21:08:37.893-06:00Almost...Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-53766498748733516542008-08-13T19:51:00.003-06:002008-08-13T20:04:29.115-06:00Mission OrganizationFaithful reader, you are in for a shock. I have decided to split my blogging interests into two seperate spheres. With that will come some changes.

First, all knitting related posts will be made to Knit Ruby. That leaves life and kids and love and other such things to remain here on The Ruby Life.

Topics I intend to discuss here include:
Life with a baby
Living within your means
Relaxed living
Work from home
The Stay-at-home-family - both parents work from home
babywearing, pouches, carriers, and wraps
Cloth diapering

Second, I'm trying to rearrange my ads and content to make it easier to navigate and to share valuable stuff with you. I want the ads that display to be relevant, not something like "14k Ruby." Not that I don't want a 14k ruby... But you get the idea.

With that in mind, I'm looking for some feedback. I would love it if you would explore my blogs and check them out. Kick the tires, so to speak. Let me know what works and what doesn't. II look forward to any suggestions you might have.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-69256406606652823122008-08-12T22:08:00.003-06:002008-08-12T22:26:22.679-06:00Steady as she goes
Neil took this picture of me this afternoon. Apparently, I knit in my sleep now.

I'm up to the gusset stitches on my Tiger Pants. I'll finish that and graft tomorrow, and then start on the legs.

For only 5 days into the knitting olympics, I think I'm doing quite well. My biggest obstacle will be if I don't pace myself on the longies and the socks. I know I can get those done lickity split, but if I do I will have only the tunic to finish out the competition. I prefer to have more variety in my knitting day to ward off boredom and sore hands.

I'm crusing right along on the Hippie Tunic - I'm now up to the ribbed waistband. Two days of 2x2 should cheer me up to go back to the lace pattern....
...Oh, great. Just realized I forgot to change needle sizes three rows ago when I switched into the ribbing... Argh! I'm going to have to rip that back and switch needles. :( At least it's only 3 rows.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3666484689675468843.post-13966376699777650512008-08-12T09:37:00.003-06:002008-08-12T09:43:43.963-06:00Great ExpectationsWith all this knitting olympic fever in the house, I decided it was time for some ground rules. Specifically, ground rules related to the other people in my house, in support of my knitting. I found a great list of Support Team Roles and Responsibilities, published by Megknitficent. It clearly outlines what I expect of DH and the kids during this period of extreme knitting.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13004175647675544698noreply@blogger.com0
